Tuson, Arizona December 2020
What did we ever do before airbnb? Traveling during a pandemic is a sensitive subject, the decision for Gregg and I to spend time in the desert for a secluded getaway was a marvelous choice for us! Choosing a tucked away vacation home gave us the opportunity to keep ourselves distanced from others while getting a chance to be in nature and connected to one another. Here is a link to the fun conversation cards we like to bring along with us for any downtime as an alternative to television or movies.
We picked an airbnb in southern Arizona, a beautiful casita on 10 acres, complete with a hot tub, indoor fire place and the most beautiful mountain scenery. Just 1 mile from the casita is the Saguaro National Park a beautiful park, named for the large saguaro cactus, native to its desert environment.
The desert heat is indeed a dry heat, visiting during December was a perfect time for our South Florida blood. The mornings started in the high 60's and at night the temperature dropped down to the mid 40's or below. During the day it warmed up quite nicely, perfect for hiking and taking in the breath taking cactus. A little insight on how long these magnificent plants have been around, every inch is about 10 years of life!
We may have committed a cardinal sin of visiting Arizona without going to Sedona or the Grand Canyon.. we instead opted to stay in southern Arizona and explore Tucson. We spent a few days in the desert and a few days at a resort. Because very few people were traveling we had just about the entire hotel, spa and pool at Omni Resort, Tucson to ourselves.
Spa services, a winery visit and margarita flights were a splendid ending to our trip.
